thinking out loud #1: what's the point?

My first attempt at audio

And now for something a little bit different.

A few years ago, I met someone who introduced me to the concept of sending voice messages.

And by voice messages, I don’t mean short voice clips that replace a paragraph-long text. I mean personalized podcasts. Monologues where you share life updates, responses to each other’s questions, and random musings. They’re more of a replacement for emails, but at the same time are essentially a unique medium of expression.

People communicate differently when they speak than when they write, even more so when they speak without a script than when they have a chance to revise the message until it’s “perfect.” And voice provides texture and context that the written word simply cannot.

At some point, I received enough compliments on my voice that I wondered if I should take it as a sign and put my voice out there publicly. But my voice messages were so personal, and tailored to each specific individual. I asked myself: Could I record a voice message that could speak to multiple people? Could I send voice messages to an audience?

Recently, I made a friend—the same new friend that I mention in this voice message—and they were gracious enough to let me send them a practice message in order to craft a template voice, one I hope can speak to many and yet still feel personal at the same time.

I’d love your feedback on this audio transmission! Feel free to leave a comment, or email me at elusivekrystyna@gmail.com.
